I will not blog, I will not blog

I will not blog for the next two weeks. Wednesday I am heading to Virginia Beach for some REAL honest to goodness R & R…sun and sand, PERIOD.

I got all my classes done for IUP…syllabi done, assignments done, lectures 99% done, WebCT compnents done, sent out reminder emails to my students to be prepared the first day of class to select student teaching sites, IUP is FINITO for the fall semester….

UNO is still a work in progress, although the syllabus is DONE, field experiences and scoring rubric are DONE, the first four class sessions (online materials) done….so that is in rather good shape as well.

Thanks to Jen I scrambled around to locate some beach-reading materials…nothing heavy-BLECH—Marley and Me, a couple Clive Cussler reads (thanks to my son), and a Dan Brown lightweight too. I love to sit in the sand, book in hand and just fall asleep reading with the ocean in the background…that, my friends, is HEAVEN.

So, even though I will have my laptop and will get online to check with Lilacspecs once in a while, I WILL NOT BLOG.

Be back around August 12….enjoy yourselves!

Oh, 115 days to Specs and Cabanaland.

Critter Cavalcade

118 days til Specs and Cabanaland

What to write about today… how about the kitties? I haven’t talked about them for awhile! Let’s see…the latest…

They are just over 4 months old now and getting bigger by the day.

Samson is such a ‘man’…walks around all day with his nose up Delila’s woohoo…I mean, the little kittay can’t quite get it up yet, I’m pretty sure, but he sure knows to go where the action is…

Delila just walks away…fine woman!

Delila, on the other hand, has learned how to flush the toilet. I shit you not…yesterday, she went into the bathroom and pushed down on the lever and flushed the toilet!  Mind you, there was no pee or poo in there, but hey…maybe I can get her to do it in the toilet instead of the kitty litter. Then I only have 5 pounds of excrement to toss daily instead of 10…Samson will NEVER do it!

Delila is also watching me turn the water in the bathroom sink on and off…I predict that will happen very soon.

But, let me not forget to tell you about my master hunter…Samson. While I cleaned our other pet’s tank (Frogila, an african water frog that is 21 years old), I had the little guy in a SEALED plastic container. Ol Samson took on stealth mode—stalked Frogila—pawed at Frogila—tried to bite the lid off the container to play with Frogila—probably scared the next 5 years off Frogila’s life…and now, he watches Frogila intently from the foot of the tank…I can see his little wheels working…”if I get on top and stick my paw in when the thing is coming up to eat or breathe, maybe I can play whack a frog”…

Frogila 21 yrs and ?

Samson's attack post

Samson's attack post

Delila has decided that Samson has a good thing going when he meows like a madman when he wakes up and has begun to follow suit…big difference though…mew, mew, mew vs. M-E-O-W, M-E-O-W, M-E-O-W! But, she gets the same result..a bit of extra luvin.

But, Samson can’t shut up…the little dude actually TALKS. Had we known, we probably would have named him ‘Mumbles’…honestly, he walks up and down the steps mumbling (sounds like–brbrbrbrbrbrbrrrrrr); when he plays with a toy, when he jumps from a height (that one is more like—buhhhhh), he loves to ‘talk’…

They are actually getting so big that I almost can’t fit them in the same carrier anymore…when it’s time for their ‘fixing’ in September, they will definitely have to have his and hers ‘carriages’.

It’ so hard watching your children grow up…

Delila says "YOU are interrupting me, THANK YOU very much!"

Delila says "YOU are interrupting me, THANK YOU very much!"

Samson says "Brbrbrbrbrrrr...bring it on!"

Samson says "Brbrbrbrbrrrr...bring it on!"

The joys….ahhhhh.

I am MAD at …I don’t know…is there a God?

There is NO GOD…at least not in the sense that I think most people who believe in a God think….I like George Carlin’s version of God—-he prayed to Joe Pesci!

Why do I feel this way?  Well, let’s see, let me count the ways….

1)     Cancer…. what could a little baby could have possibly done to get cancer … some religious folk believe that cancer is your just reward for not being a God-fearing (what a fucking oxymoron that is! aren’t people supposed to LOVE God?)  person…didn’t go to church, or whatever your place of worship might be, enough…used the name IN VAIN (GASP!)… punish that bad mommy who smoked or drank while pregnant

2)     Mental Illness …oh yes, people definitely CHOOSE to become severely depressed or agoraphobic or bi-polar…no, wait, it is genetic…riiiiiight…so people are made that way…um, was God a bit schizoid then since “we are made in HIS image”

3)     Hurricanes, Earthquakes, Sun poisoning…I know, just a joke, just a little wake-up call from up above

4)     Birth defects…we’re back at the punishment thing…didn’t pray long enough, hard enough; drank too much; didn’t give enough coin in the collection basket…but why take it out on the baby???

I know, I know….God is supposed to represent hope and faith in something and all that bullshit.  This God thing does absolutely NOTHING for you…you do it all for yourself…as it should be…

You take care of a sick person because it is the RIGHT THING TO DO…

You go to school and learn how to do something so that you can earn some money to take care of yourself and others becasue IT IS THE INTELLIGENT THING TO DO

You look around you and see something wrong (like the little ozone/icecap problem the world is having) and YOU CHANGE YOUR BEHAVIOR because you CARE ABOUT THE ENVIORNMENT

Why do people with one tiny iota of intelligence do any of this? NOT BECAUSE GOD told them too (although it is written in Jewish law and all the good Christians out there certainly KNOW that the Jewish people came FIRST…their boy came around a lot later and he was Jewish after all)..the Bible tells people to do it…Ummmm,

PEOPLE, that handy little book was written BY PEOPLE and PEOPLE TELL STORIES…some people tell better stories than others….hey, look at the Mormons…

God is a fabrication. Made. Up. By good story tellers.

God hasn’t been good to you….YOU have been good to you and NATURE has been good to you…

Thank yourself and NATURE for not having cancer.

Thank yourself for finding the strength to deal with those little jokes (I think insurance companies call them Acts of God)

Thank yourself and your friends and family for being around to support you

Thank NATURE for healing itself….if it depended on people, it would’ve disappeared a long time ago (although it is having a hard time healing itself now…but that is becasue of all the God fearing people around)

What brought this on?

I am pissed off and terribly saddened by the looming death of a very kind and wonderful student of mine who is only about 30 years old.  This incredibly talented, cheerful, loving, honest, God believing person had fought more than a good fight…she has fought with every ounce of her being, she has prayed to God to give her strength and hope and a long remission…it has fallen on deaf ears…ironic, since she is a teacher of the deaf.  I am angry that NATURE has handed this amazing young woman a very lousy hand and GOD has really done nothing to ease her pain, her mental and physical burdens…doctors have tried to do that and frankly, in my opinion, have not done it too well…it is sad that this world will lose this fine woman too soon.

Nope, there is no God.

We Were Soldiers…….???

Tonite DD and I watched the movie: We Were Soldiers and it got me thinking about war movies.

I don’t get it. I don’t get why the leaders of the various countries don’t get how useless and vile war is for ALL sides.

I understand the job of being a soldier, I really do. I give a ton of credit to those extraordinarily brave men and women who CHOOSE to knowingly put their lives on the line…they honestly believe that they are in the position to save their country from whatever evil is out there. They truly believe they have a JOB TO DO. They are being trained in the job of killing. I mean, that is what a soldier is trained to do…kill. If soldiers do it well, they are heros. If they don’t, they are dead.

What good is a dead anything? Even a dead hero…what a waste of a good life!

We (and I mean all countries and their war-mongering leaders) glorify war. We Were Soldiers; Private Ryan; Das Boot; The Bridge on the River Kwai; Apocolypse Now; Hotel Rwanda; Full Metal Jacket…the list goes on…just Google “war movies” and you’ll get an endless list of them. Even when the movie shows the awful side of war, it still glorifies the process. Military Science du jour… (I can think of about a gazillion better applications of science!)

I understand that war is all about control…political, religious, energy, territory.

I also understand and believe that THERE MUST BE A BETTER WAY to solve our world’s problems; work it out boys and girls…what do we teach children in preschool?? USE YOUR WORDS [not your fists]!

I can’t understand why world leaders won’t buy into that and save the hundreds of thousands of lives that are needlessly lost. Iraqi lives, Israeli lives, Palestinian lives, Pakistani lives, Zulu lives, Congolese lives, American lives, etc.

Is Neanderthal-like bravado really what we as humans are all about? Is it an ego-thing?

I don’t get it; and I kinda wish the rest of the world, educated and uneducated alike would feel the same way. Maybe then we will find a humanesque alternative to our disagreements. Wouldn’t that be nice for a change?

I can wish and dream.
