My SENIORS!
I can’t resist….I DO LOVE my students….they energize me; they make me smile; they make me do better as a teacher; they ‘complete me’ (groan…I know!)
86 days til Specs and Cabanaland
Haiku Friday, 1 day late

Been away awhile
Nerves put me on edge for now
First day of school fears
88 days to Specs and Cabanaland
3 months… mark
It is exactly 90 days til we head off to Belgium. I can almost taste the waffles, choclolate and beer as I sit and write this entry….yummmmmmmm.
But there is so much that has to happen first. Gotta get through the first weeks of class; I actually taught two 45 minutes sessions on using rubrics to new faculty yesterday and I must admit that I felt totally ENERGIZED when I was done. Just kinda walked with a lighter foot and smiled ALOT inside…this is a GOOD thing!
Gotta complete my work for the University of New Orleans…that involves teaching their class starting next Thursday night and working a bit more on some of their syllabi and Field Experiences as well as a follow-up 2-3 day trip down to New Orleans. I’m getting to know that town pretty well.
I have my BFF’s daughter’s wedding next weekend…I wish I had stock in Kimberly-Clark cause there are going to be a truckload of tissues used at that wedding…HAPPY TEARS, but tears for sure (I’ll be a major contributor).
Throw a couple major Jewsih holidays in there and before you know it…VOILA…tis November.
So, as I log off and really start to focus on my teaching again…I bid you adieu, and will try to blog when I can. Thanks all of you who have been following my escapades…there are some lurkers out there…thanks to you too!
I just spent the last two hours on an incredibly cool online tool called Marratech. It is a synchronous online way to teach a class. My buddy Kate at University of New Orleans, who bought my soul hired me to teach a class for her students this semester, was giving me a tutorial on how to make this baby work.
YEEHAW!!
It was awesome! Here comes the geek in me…we had both our pictures up on the screen and were listening via headsets and talking via microphones. Then there was a whiteboard feature on the left side of the screen (Like a SMARTBoard for you other teachers out there)…and I could literally bring anything I wanted onto the whiteboard and then work with it….
So, my 4 year old nephew’s picture was the first thing to go up…when he was under one and it was the cutest little naked baby picture…oh, what we did to him his picture in the name of education! Poor baby had a tail, horns, arrows pointing to his various maleness features…thankfully, I also learned how to make it all disappear as well!
Then we did a number on my first Powerpoint session….oh.my.goodness. Kind of fun what you can do the anatomical features of the ear….*smirk*
Then we discovered the recording feature….can you say…STAND UP COMIC? We recorded and viewed and listened and rerecorded…and I basically had WAAAAAAY too much fun learning how to use this course tool.
It was very much like the Twilight Zone…going somewhere I had never gone before…OH, wait…that’s STAR TREK!
At any rate…it was a blast…I learned how I would be teaching my 11 students beginning next Thursday…and it seems my first day back this semester went glowingly well. WOOT!
