Turtle Soup?

That’s almost what I felt like today.

We didn’t go to Epcot today…it was almost 90 degrees and we thought that would be too much for dad. Instead we decided to take an airboat ride in the central Florida Everglades. (YIPPEE, I taught myself how to create a link!!!)

It was almost as much fun as skydiving (‘ll share that one with you another time).  I have to tell you though, my darling sister was the weiner today…she wrote down the directions to get there and we turned left instead of right and drove almost two hours the WRONG way…she wanted to leave early and “shmie” around…darn good thing that we had almost 3 hours of shmie time…about 45 minutes before our appointed time I suggested that perhaps we might want to call the folks back and ask if we were close to them. (Oh, and daddy was napping in the back seat most of the drive…daddies and babies…a good car ride works every time!)

Me:  Hello, we are supposed to be there for a 1:30 ride and I was wondering if we are close. We are at the FLorida Turnpike and Rt. 50 intersection.

Him: You are WHERE??? You are ON THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN!!! HOW’D YOU DO THAT???

Me:  Um, well,  we tried to find Biltho or Christmas and couldn’t seem to find them so we kept looking; the directions said to go on E. Colonial and we just kept going.

HIM: WELL, YOU DIDN’T FOLLOW MY DIRECTIONS. NOW, LISTEN TO ME  (EXCUUUUUUSSSSSSE ME…REDNECK DUDE BETTER WATCH WHO HE IS TALKING TO…PITTSBURGH GIRL DOES NOT TAKE KINDLY TO THOSE WHO SPEAK WITH DISDAIN TOWARD HER…)

And he proceeds to give me, the navigator, the directions. I said, “we’ll never make it.” to which he replied, “If you listen to me and follow those directions, you will.

RIIIIIGHT…

So, like a stack of sizzlin’ bacon, we fly down to the next available toll road (Note to future visitors to Florida: you MUST have an EZ Pass if you plan to drive anywhere…every 30 seconds you have to get off on a little side ramp, pay anywhere from 25 cents to $1 and get back on AND you need exact change in most of the pullouts)…we FINALLY get back to the road where we turned in the wrong direction and went the other way and

Lo

and

behold…

there were the landmarks we were looking for…a little town called Christmas, Florida (I kid you not)…street names were ‘Blitzen’, St. Nicholas, you get the idea…

the bridge we were trying to find, and the immediate right turn that took us to the boat dock where our airboat awaited us…

WHEW….we were only 8 minutes late for the absolutely best time we’ve had in a long time!

Tomorrow, I will try to learn how to post some videos/pictures that I took…we were on that boat for 2 1/2 hours and saw the most incredible things…huge alligators literally a foot away…we saw one catch a fish and gobble it up (and learned they like turtles too…hence, the title of this little diddie)..saw eagles, hawks, sand cranes, free range cattle, turtles, you name it, we saw it and the boat ride was freakin fantastic…we were on 2″ of water and 15 feet of water…we went up on dry land and bounded over sandbars…

and the redneck wasn’t so bad after all…

Sounds like fun (albeit ala West Cape May style)! And I see you don’t need hyperlink tutelage after all. Glad you’re having such a great time in the swamp and some good family together time with Grandpa and Aunt K.
