What July 4th Means to Me

There are days that I am so embarrassed to be an American…mainly because of ‘W’. He has so tarnished us worldwide…more than we have even tarnished ourselves..us ‘Ugly Americans’…but when I really truly reflect on what this country IS all about…it is hard to argue with the rights we have and what we had to do to keep them for ourselves and yes, even get them for others….

I don’t think our WWII allies have too much to talk about….I don’t think Germany has a place to bitch and moan, even Russia owes us a thing or two…and that is one of the things that makes us probably even more special…we don’t seem to ask for repayment for that which we have given….lives to save a foreign nation from annihalation, some of our best and brightest talents and minds to rebuild, money to rebuild…we have been a leader…

What we need to learn now is how to be a good GLobal collaborator…not a follower, not an imperialist, a collaborator…working WITH all of the leading nations of the world to make it all a better place.

So, I guess, deep down, I am still proud to be an American…still proud to know that we do have freedom to say what we want, proud to know that we can have presidential elections that we can choose to vote if we wish, proud to have such a diverse group of people living under one flag….
(Texans, Pennsylvanians, Minnesotans, etc—really are different kinds of people…)

Here is what I think should be our national anthem {skip over the God parts)…(rather than The Star Spangled Banner that talks about bombs blasting and such…)

Happy and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE soon to be peaceful July 4.

I totally hear you – on all of this! But I no longer say I’m ashamed to be an American. I say I’m ashamed of our president. ‘Cuz he really does suck. He has disrespected the Office, our Constitution, and all that I love about America. But here’s what’s awesome: America’s so strong that he hasn’t been able to take away our freedom of speech to say that he SUCKS 🙂 Happy 4th to you!
